About Us

Boo & Westley is a socially-responsible fashion label that works with traditional textile artists in their home regions around the world. We aim to connect diverse peoples through bold art to share stories & preserve cultural heritage. Empowering those creating and wearing with knowledge & encouragement to seek out more conscious fashion choices & change the room.

Chapter One : The Archipelago

In Chapter One we are taken on a journey through The Archipelago of Indonesia, criss-crossing the Islands of Java, Madura & Bali to bring you the bold, beautiful colours of batik.

All our One Of A Kind pieces are artist designed & created giving you access to their regions in a unique way. Many patterns reflect the local flora & fauna of each local region, brought out in the artists own expression. Each ready to wear piece created changes the room & brings more sustainable development to the artists lives & that of their community's.

From The Founder : Matilda Morgan

“I have always loved design & colour. I was very lucky to grow up with a family involved in the arts & was surrounded by textiles collected from around the world by my grandmother. So I guess it's only natural that I have a special fondness for the colours, textures & stories found in fabrics & art from all cultures.

Beginning my travels in Indonesia in 2015, I was stunned by the beauty & complexity of batik & traditional textile art found throughout The Archipelago. I continue to be inspired by the artists & the imagery they produce through their own sense of creativity, tradition & experience of the world around them.

Boo & Westley is my way of showing my appreciation of traditionally made textile art & the people creating it, wherever they are. By using fashion are my curative medium I created Boo & Westley to further support these artistic communities in sustainable economic & job development. As well as ensuring that these incredible forms of art and stories are not lost, but, instead of shared with a wider & wider audience.

I am also passionate about people around the world being able to express their unique, powerful self. Something I strongly believe is impacted by the clothes we wear. The bold colours & designs of Boo & Westley & the connection to art is my solution to creating your own style & owning it.

All of my garment pattern designs are heavily influenced by my life – from growing up on a farm in SW Victoria, Australia - to working in Indonesia, & of course from the people I meet along the way. I mould these experiences into structures that will best show the character of the different patterns & their stories, resulting on the designs you see today."

What's In A Name?

Like all the amazing stories of the people & art that we share through our designs Boo & Westley has its own story.

Boo is named after my Grandmother Belinda without a love of colour, art, design & adventure would never have been realised. She was bold, loud, smart & unapologetically herself. Travelling wide & seeking new connections, friendships - always living in & celebrating her own difference.

Westley is for all the big, bold, full hearted guys you know. Easy to share laughs with, ready with a smile & an adventure. Named after the westerly winds that blow into Darwin during the wet season bringing the waves & best time kitesurfing.

We believe there is a bit of Boo & Westley in everyone.

Social Impact & Vision

In beginning our journey from the Indonesian Archipelago Boo & Westley have created connections with artists and tailors over the islands of Java, Madura & Bali. We work in collaboration to share their stories & create lasting employment options & economic development.

Our social responsibility is grounded in empowerment; creating opportunities for the local textile industry through ethical partnerships with family businesses and small community enterprises. These collaborations also help to build skills and improve linkages with the broader market.

5% of profits made by Boo & Westley are put aside into a fund to help further social development around our connections - we are currently finalising where we will direct this for the future. For the moment we will allow the fund to grow.
